FROM the Chelford Review, w/e February 16 CATTLE AVERAGES: 29 cows and heifers calved since October £1,659; 55 cows and heifers due to calve late spring to early summer £1,425. 154 Cows and Milking Heifers (including 14 Heifer Calves born since November at £345.71) £1,268.51; five in-calf heifers £1,514.00; 13 recently served heifers £897.69; 48 Maiden Heifers (3-15mo) £456.04. POULTRY Another busy poultry sale, with a total clearance of over 300 head. As always a good variety of stock with a good crowd of buyers and prices reflecting the demand. Waterfowl took the top spots with a pair of Crested Ducks selling for £17 (all prices per head). Five Call Ducks (two drakes and three Ducks) sold for £13. Runner Ducks, Drake and five Ducks sold for £12.

A pair of Buff Orpington £11. Then POL Hens, Silkie POL, Trio Pure Bred Welsummers all sold for £9. Followed by Nova Brown Hens £8.50. Cockerels again sold well with over 30 sold up to £8. PIGS Porkers to 146.0 p/kg Av 125.7.2 p/kg; Cutters to 128.0 p/ kg Av 111.07 p/kg; Baconers to 100.0 p/kg Av 100.0 p/kg; Sows to 40.0 p/kg Av 35.0 p/kg. The best shaped pigs with plenty of finish once again proved no trouble to sell, as all buyers bid keenly, all making over 140 p/kg, to a very creditable top of 146p/kg for 75.3 kg gilts from Jack Davies, who brought another load of quality from Anglesey. Plenty grossing up to over £100 per head. SHEEP Disappoint­ing entry, with one promised load of in-lamb ewes unable to make it. A small ewe with single lamb made £70; in-lamb Crossbred ewes to £60. Cheviot Cross mixed store lambs to £51, Jacob mixed lambs to £50 EGGS Duck eggs to £2.80 per dozen. POTATOES Potatoes to £3.80 per bag (Maris Piper & Wilja). FRUIT & VEG Carrots £1.50 per bag, Parsnips £2, Savoy Cabbage to £2.20 PRODUCE Top price £132 per tonne for a 20 tonne load of Bright Barley Feeding Straw. Oat straw made £121 per tonne and Wheat straw £120 per tonne. Eight tonnes of Haylage realised £92 with plenty of bidders wanting some.
