SKELMERSDALE United would be forgiven for looking over the shoulders after a run of 14 games without victory has seen them drop to within six points of the relegation zone.

Manager Dave Powell has reacted to the slump by bringing in three players who all featured in Saturday’s loss to Scarborough Athletic, with two having featured for United before.

Anthony Plant rejoins the club after featuring several times over the winter period as he arrives on a work experience deal from League One club Wigan Athletic.

Plant has been drafted in initially to cover for the suspended Arnie Baxendale, who sat out the first of a two game suspension in the spirited 2-1 defeat.

Skem initially took the lead at Scarborough, and it was another of Powell’s recruits who slotted home the penalty which put Powell’s men ahead.

Scott Bakkor left Northern Premier League side Warrington Town earlier in the week to return to Skem for Saturday’s encounter. He had previous with the club after bagging four times in 32 appearances during a successful twoyear stint between 2014-16. The midfielder has also featured for Clitheroe, Colwyn Bay and Marine, but spoke of his happiness to be back at Skem after Saturday’s game.

“I’m really happy to rejoin the club,” Bakkor said. “I enjoyed my first spell with United and can’t wait to get going again.”

Powell was also happy with his return, commenting after the game that Bakkor “never stopped working, deserved his goal and was unlucky not to draw us level late on.”

The final recruit of Powell’s minishopping spree is youthful striker Mwiya Malumo. Malumo follows Plant from Wigan - again on a work experience deal.

United will look to strengthen their case in Evo Stik North when they entertain Goole AFC on Saturday.
