ASKELMERSDALE sex offender who was found hiding in a loft has been jailed for more than a year.

Paul Jevons, 40, of Elm Court, was wanted by police after failing to tell them he had moved out of his address in September, breaching his sex offender notification requirements.

Jevons was traced to the Crosby area of Merseyside on January 31.

Officers attempted to arrest him but he made off in a car before colliding with another car. Again he made off from the scene.

Following inquiries, Jevons was found hiding in the loft of a property in the Carrfield Avenue area of Crosby a day later.

He was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, document offences and breaching his sex offender notification requirements. He appeared before Wirral Magistrates’ Court on February 2, and pleaded guilty.

He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday (March 2) and was given a 14-month jail sentence.

Det Con David Perkins, of Lancashire police’s sex offender management unit, said: “Jevons breached his sex offender notification requirements by failing to tell officers he had left his address. He went on the run and following a number of appeals, Jevons was traced to the Merseyside area, arrested and charged, before being handed a custodial sentence for his actions in evading police.

“We welcome the court result and hope it serves as a reminder to offenders we will not tolerate such behaviour.

“We will catch up with you and you will return to prison.”
