Exams pass their latest test

LEADERS Exams continued their 100% record with the defeat of Wings in the Handicap League.

Led by Brian Waggett 13 and Jim Quigley 12, and receiving 21, they finished 62-54 despite good scoring from Dag Griffiths 19, Maurice Wright 14 and Tom Farley 12.

Conceding 16, Casablanca beat Formby Pavilion 49-48 led by good scoring from Chris Sumner 15, Dave Dutton and Ray Oakes, both 12, and Bill Thomas 10 with Nick Aindow 10 leading the reply.

Receiving 14, Ainsdale Sands were 5 ahead going into the last round and just hung on to finish 52-51 in front of Zetland led by Jack Gardner 21 with Harry Owen 20 and Dick Davies 15 scoring well for the visitors.

Conceding 17, Formby Sports produced a solid performanc­e to beat St Jeromes 54-51 with good scoring from Gary Buxton 19, Sheila Tickle 16 and Keith Gowans 10 with Mike Beckingham 12 leading for the visitors.

Receiving 9 and led by Ann Evans 14, MPs made the most of their handicap to finish 39-35 ahead at Devonshire Club, with Dave Leyland 13 and Brian Cummins 10 leading for Devonshire.

Conceding 5, Southport FC proved much too strong for ExPats in winning 44-27 led by Geoff Wilde 15, Mick Hopkins 11 and Mike Taylor 10 all scoring well with Phil Ward 10 leading the reply.

Conceding 6, Fishermen’s Rest only overtook Dismounted in the 7th round but finished strongly to win 42-31 with good scoring from John Ashcroft 15 and Dave Tarr 10 with Frank Hansen 10 leading the reply.

Receiving 2 and with good scoring from Tony Duffey 15, Richard Farbon 14 and Pat Duffey 12, Quads proved much too strong for Vikings in winning 50-34 with Alan Martin 12 leading for the visitors.

Conceding 7, E Street Band led Mixed Blues by the 5th round but the away side rallied and finished only 4 down at 48-44, Dave Nickeas 15, Alan Wright 12, Ann Page 11 and Dave Twigge 10 making contributi­ons and Jim McGrath 13 leading for the visitors.
