You Beauty! Dog running near M58 given love and care
A DOG that has been running loose near the M58 for almost a month has finally been found.
The smooth-coated St Bernard was found on Monday (March 12) as a result of a joint effort from residents and police.
The canine had been reported running loose around Bickerstaffe and has been roaming the fields around the M58.
Fortunately, the brown and white dog was safely captured and is currently being cared for.
A spokesperson for Lancashire police said: “Thank you to everyone who has helped find this poor dog who has been roaming around Bickerstaffe and Skelmersdale. She is now safe and being looked after. Well done everyone.”
The dog, who has been named Beauty, is being cared for by Carla Lane Animals in Need, in Liverpool, for whom a spokesperson said: “After four weeks of pursuit, the dog was finally caught.
“Sadly she was in extremely poor health having had to fend for herself, living without regular access to food or water, exposed to such dreadful weather for so long that we suspect she may not have had very long left had she not been caught safely.
“Beauty is now safe, warm and comfortable recuperating in one of our special care rooms.”
Beauty is about a quarter of what would be considered a healthy weight for her breed and size. But her vital signs are encouraging and she is showing signs of improvement.
The spokesperson said: “We know her recovery is going to take time as this poor soul has had to draw upon every reserve her body had just to stay alive.
“Thank you all once again to all involved in getting this sweet gentle giant to safety.”
