Split among locals over plan for new sports bar

-

RESIDENTS have been left divided over plans to open a new sports bar in Maghull.

The new bar could open in the former dog grooming parlour on Deyes Lane – previously used as a post office.

Plans to open the bar remain subject to both planning permission and a licensing application being approved by Sefton Council.

But residents have already raised concerns over the plans, arguing it could lead to increased disorder in the area.

One resident, who did not want to be named, told the Advertiser: “I live close to these shops and we don’t want something like this.

“Opening so late is going is asking for trouble, more noise problems, more drink drivers.”

Others on social media have pledged to object to the plans to Sefton Council, though there is also plenty of support.

Another Maghull resident, Andy Robertson, commented: “I can’t understand why people want to object to everything new.

“We need new places to go to improve Maghull and I’m looking forward to enjoying a beer when the place opens.”

According the documents submitted to the council, the new business would be named the Old Post Office Sports Bar, with proposed opening times of 10.30am-1am seven days a week.
