Harry’s £5,000 charitable badge of honour

A SKELMERSDA­LE man with learning disabiliti­es has raised more than £5,000 for charity.

Harry Eaton regularly does voluntary work for the British Heart Foundation in Skelmersda­le Concourse Shopping Centre.

The 54-year-old has been selling £1 pin badges for the charity for two years, working three or four times a week.

He has managed to raise an impressive £5,000 during his time as a volunteer.

Harry, who lives in Up Holland, has 24-hour support from Mencap, a group of people committed to supporting people with learning disabiliti­es.

Nick Dickinson, his Mencap support worker, said: “Harry saw the charity shop in the Concourse shopping centre one day and wanted to do what he could to help.

“He feels fantastic to be given the certificat­e to say he has raised £5,000 for the British Heart Foundation. He is very proud, and we are all very proud of him.”

In his spare time, Harry plays football for the Skem Men-Aces FC, which was founded and is managed my his brother, Carl.

He has also dedicated time to raising money to help the community football team.

Carl, 56, said: “Harry has always been a very keen fundraiser and has raised several hundred pounds over the years for his beloved football team, the Skem Men-Aces.

“It’s a wonderful gift to be able to give something back despite adversity.”
