Girls are already winners thanks to new team kit
MAGHULL Girls players are dressed to impress after winning a full team kit through E.ON’s Power Kicks competition.
The under 10 footballers are now proudly wearing their new team kit for their matches in the West Lancashire Girls League.
John Twigg, who coaches the team, said: “The kit has come as a real boost for the girls. We’ve got the smallest squad in the league but the players have a great bond and are constantly improving.
They’ve done really well in tournaments in recent years, including finishing runners up in the league cup last season.
‘‘Maghull Girls is well established in our community, and these under 10 players will hopefully come to play their part in keeping the club going long into the future.
Michael Lewis, chief executive of E.ON, said: “I hope this new kit brings Maghull Girls luck in their remaining matches this season... We love running initiatives like this because we’re helping our customers in the way they need it most.” SKELMERSDALE-BASED packaging company TrakRap is celebrating success after one of its apprentices won an award at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
Daniel Blake, 24, took home the Group Training Association Engineering Apprentice of the Year Award at the Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies Alliance (SEMTA) Skills Awards 2018 event in London.
Hosted by journalist and TV presenter Steph McGovern, the awards celebrate the achievements of those working in the UK’s advanced manufacturing and engineering sector.
Originally from Chorley, Daniel joined TrakRap as an apprentice in 2012, working his way up to mechanical assembly engineer.
He is currently undertaking a Level 4 Higher National Diploma in mechanical engineering at Wigan and Leigh College. Daniel was nominated for the award by Alliance Learning, his apprenticeship learning provider, and beat thousands of apprentices from the GTA’s various learning partners across the UK to make the shortlist.
Daniel impressed the judges with his work on a wide range of assembly and research projects, his role as health and safety leader at TrakRap and his involvement with the Lancashire Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network, which promotes apprenticeships to young adults.
TrakRap’s operations director David Robinson said: “We’re over the moon for Danny, who thoroughly deserves his award. His drive, determination and natural ability have never been in question, so we’re thrilled his efforts have been recognised by the wider engineering and apprenticeships communities.”
