ADEALER jailed for peddling Class A drugs can now be revealed as a “disgraceful driver” who almost killed himself and other motorists during a 100mph police chase.

Ian Fenney was locked up for three years following the raid of a house in Skelmersdale in March.

The 25-year-old tried to hide the drugs up his backside and was arrested.

Now, the Liverpool man can be revealed as the kamikaze driver who once raced through the streets of Skem, speeding down the wrong way of a busy road, and nearly crashing head-on with a white van.

The career criminal, who was behind the wheel of a Volvo 560, led police on a frantic chase, reaching a top speed of 105mph in a 40mph zone.

The convicted burglar was already on police bail for drugs matters when the chase began at around 3pm on June 21, in 2016.

Alarming footage from the police car’s dashboard-mounted camera showed the chase continuing at high speeds along Whiteledge Road and Gillibrand Road, in Skelmersdale, where Fenney swung the vehicle into oncoming traffic and into a layby.

Seconds later the Volvo can be seen exiting the lay-by back towards oncoming traffic, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with a white van.

The chase eventually ends when Fenney turns off down a narrow cycle lane, where Frank Doherty was riding his bicycle.

The cyclist tried to get out the way of the Volvo, but it knocked him over, leaving him with knee and thumb injuries.

Fenney still failed to stop and continued down the path before crashing at the far end, which caused the Volvo’s airbags to deploy.

He ran from the scene and escaped, but was tracked down after DNA samples were taken from the airbag.

Now, Fenney, of Plum Grove, in Seaforth, has been jailed for three years as part of Lancashire Police’s Operation Nemesis.

The home in Skelmersdale where he was arrested was searched and a large quantity of cash and two mobile phones found.

Fenney was frisked at the police custody suite where a substantial quantity of heroin and crack cocaine were recovered. He pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs at Preston Crown Court.

Police constable Ben Barnes, of Lancashire Constabulary’s South Division, said: “This is an excellent result for the community of Skelmersdale and once again shows that the supply of controlled substances in the area will not be tolerated by the public or the police.

“Operation Nemesis officers will continue to target those committing organised crime in our area and will act on any information given to the police.”
