New surface for crumbling road

-

SKELMERSDALE West County Cllr Julie Gibson has welcomed the announcement that Neverstitch Road in Skelmersdale is to be resurfaced.

The work was agreed at a recent meeting of Lancashire County Council’s cabinet and is part of the 2018/2019 highways capital programme.

Cllr Gibson said: “Like many of my colleagues, I receive numerous complaints about the state of the roads across Skelmersdale but a particular one that always comes up is the perilous state of Neverstitch Road.

“The road is used as a main access to the industrial estate and so is constantly bearing the brunt of heavy wagons which, in turn, is tearing up the road surface.”

Cllr Gibson has already been able to establish additional signage which directed lorries to the Glenburn Road entrance of the site, but there is still a problem with satnav routing which still takes some lorries to the Neverstitch Road entrance.

Cllr Gibson said: “I welcome the increased growth of firms using the estate as their base – it is a boost to the economy of West Lancashire but at the same time the constant impact on the road surface has heightened its deterioration.

“I am hopeful that the work will help to address the noise and vibrations caused by heavy vehicles and will greatly improve the quality of life for nearby residents.”

She added: “I first asked for this road to be included in the capital programme back in 2015/2016 but cuts to LCC’s budget meant it was put back – I am delighted we now have some movement.”

The surface dressing will cover the entire length of the road, starting at Ormskirk Road and continuing to the junction of Glenburn Road.
