FROM the Beeston Review, w/e April 20 CATTLE In-spec cattle sold to 220p/kg for Blue steers from a local south Cheshire producer, headage returns to £1,320 for the Warburton family with many more over £1,200.

Heifers topped at 217p/kg for John Gate and again, the Warburtons in top spot at £1,222 in the lump. Even the non-assured and over 30m cattle found another gear, generally mid 180s to 190p/ kg POULTRY Fewer birds forward this week, as expected, but trade remained good with plenty of keen bidding for quality birds. Top price of the day went to Alan Davies selling pairs of Ko Shamos for £24, £20 and £18. Next were a lovely trio of Guinea fowl selling to £18. Next were some call and Muscovy ducks selling to £18. H Williams achieved £12 for a cracking pair of Gold Laces Polish bantams. (All prices per bird). PIGS Fewer pigs in, but a tremendous trade for all the top quality prime pigs brought in by regular supporters, peaking at 146 p/kg for some super 108.5kg gilts from Richard Wilson, grossing up to £158.41 per head.

Plenty of quality pigs over 130p/kg from several vendors, indicating the strength of demand throughout. Porkers to 141.0p/kg av 111.52p/kg, cutters to 141.0p/kg av 122.80p/kg, baconers to 146.0p/kg av 122.32p/kg SHEEP Ewes with lambs at foot, particular­ly stronger models, peaking at £168 for full-mouth Texel cross ewes with Texel cross twins, and up to £151, or £75.50 per life for strong, almost pure Texel ewes with Texel cross singles. Mostly, outfits with two to threeweek-old lambs were making £50 to £56 per life.

New season butchers lambs overall average: 342.6p/kg, old season lambs overall average 215.7p/kg - cull; ewes average £65.94 and rams average £85.50. EGGS Fewer eggs forward this week as incubators must be full, with trade slightly down on the week selling to £4.50 for a dozen of Cuckoo Moran eggs for Greenwoods Nurseries. PRODUCE Brilliant sunshine kept vendors away. Sorry to say nothing forward this week. However, several buyers phoned up at 11am to see what was actually on the yard.
