Advertiser Life Party night brings

AMILITARY-THEMED club night was held in Ormskirk to support Help For Heroes. The event took place on Monday, April 16 at Alpine Club Lodge in Railway Road, in Ormskirk.

More than 350 people attended – including many Edge Hill University students – and £300 was raised for the charity.

The event was organised by Mike Durgan, the director of Proud House Events, and this was the second year it has taken place.

Last year’s charity night managed to raise approximately £250 for the cause.

The 22-year-old said: “The night was a huge success and we managed to raise £300 for the charity this year along with awareness for them.

“The students all came out and the club was full by 11.30pm, They all got into the spirit of things by dressing up.”

The venue was decorated with quirky blue and red lights, with military camouflage netting strung up throughout.

The main attraction was a WWII vehicle which parked outside the venue and was available for photograph opportunities.

Mike added: “The truck was provided by a friend of mine from Bickerstaffe who wanted to support the charity, and it went down really well with all the guests.

“We even had small smoke bombs to add to the atmosphere. It was brilliant.”

Last year’s event took place because Mike heard that a local Ormskirk man, who served in the Army in Afghanistan, had been injured.

The man was seeking help from the Help For Heroes charity, and Mike came up with the themed club night idea to support the cause.

He said: “It was great to support the charity last year for a local reason, and we wanted to carry it on this year.”

Mike is hoping to host the event again next year but plans to introduce more vehicles and make it “bigger and better”.
