AMAGHULL police officer is preparing to jump out of a plane with three colleagues in aid of two causes close to their hearts.

Luke Gilmore, along with Thomas Leddy, from St Helens, and Jess Lomax and Joe Galloway, both from Southport, will skydive from 15,000ft on July 30.

The brave friends, who are all employed by Merseyside police, are planning to complete the jump to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Care Of Police Survivors.

Luke said: “One of the officers jumping has a family member currently fighting cancer.

“Due to this we wanted to give something back to a charity that has helped so many in the same position.

“We are also jumping for Cops - Care of Police Survivors, because they do a great job in helping families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.

“Both charities are close to all of us and we want to help them as much as we can.”

Most of the group are slightly nervous, while still looking forward to the challenge, but Luke is struggling to get used to the idea.

The 23-year-old explained: “I am petrified of heights. I think the rest of the group are doing okay.

“One of them was a bit nervous about it a few weeks ago, but they have got used to the idea now.”

It is hoped that their skydive will raise £2,000 – £1,000 for each charity.

The fundraising began just over a month ago, and the group have raised more than £300 so far.
