Sports bar plan beats objections
SEFTON Council has given the go-ahead for a new sports bar to open in Maghull – despite police concerns about crime and antisocial behaviour.
The Old Post Office Sports Bar will open on the site of a former dog salon, in Deyes Lane.
Merseyside police lodged an objection with licensing chiefs, saying the bar would have a negative impact on an area which already suffers high levels of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.
Several residents have also objected to the plans. One wrote: “This site is surrounded by residential properties. There’s already a problem with parking and there are several pubs within half a mile of this proposed site.”
Another said: “It is totally unacceptable for [local residents] to have to tolerate the likely negative results from this pub opening. How would you feel about a bar near your home being open until 1am?”
Sefton Council’s licensing committee approved the application - which includes a licence for alcohol, late-night refreshments, and entertainment - at a meeting at Bootle Town Hall on Monday.
The new bar will occupy 113 Deyes Lane, a single storey building which was the former site of Pawfection dog and puppy grooming.
Other businesses on the parade include a Co-op convenience store, William Hill and Subway.
