Scarecrows to step out in style ...
BURSCOUGH’S first Scarecrow Festival competition will take place this summer.
The event is set to be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15, and the winner will be selected by a judging panel on July 20.
Entry costs £5 per person, and £10 per business and all money raised will be donated to local charities.
All applicants must fill in an entry form which can be collected from 10 Hesketh Road, Burscough; Infusions in Orrell Lane, Burscough; or M K Hair in Burscough Street, Ormskirk.
The forms must be returned, with the entry money, by June 20, to be valid for the contest.
The event has been organised by Julie Woods, 45, who was inspired by seeing a scarecrow festival held in another village.
She said: “I came up with the idea as I wanted to do something to bring a little bit of magic to our village. It’s a great chance to brighten our village and have a laugh.”
Julie is aiming to get at least 100 participants, and is hoping it will become an annual event.
Once entry forms have been returned, competitors can begin work on their scarecrows before putting them outside their homes or businesses in July, to be judged by a panel of three.
