Gingerbread Men’s taste for new season

-

ORMSKIRK Rugby Club has been successful in securing financial support and resource from NatWest through the RugbyForce initiative aimed at improving community rugby clubs.

Building on 2017’s success which included laying out a new paving area to the rear of the club facing out to the pitches, a general spring clean of the pitches, posts, clubhouse and car park, and a visit from West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper, Club Chairman Brian ‘Biscuit’ Stevenson hopes for more of the same. Brian said: “The NatWest RugbyForce weekend is fast becoming a flagship event for us where the players, coaches, parents and supporters come together to improve our club and grounds which is used not only by our teams, but through regular and one off bookings from the community also.

“In recent years we’ve had a complete overhaul of our changing facilities, followed by a renovation of the bar and communal area with over £100,000 of work having been undertaken, and the club is now in high demand.

“This weekend, we will be prioritising improvements in the carpark, bar area and dressing rooms.

“We’re calling on all former members, supporters and anyone in the community who can spare an hour at all over this weekend, and particularly any tradesmen, to get in touch about giving a hand and having a beer in the club.

“There’s even a bacon butty in it for early arrivals!”

Meet time is 10am on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June at Ormskirk Rugby Club, Green Lane.

The improvement work comes at the start of what will be a busy summer for the Gingerbread Men, with the club AGM scheduled for Friday 15th June at 7.30pm, followed by the first Richie ‘Taff ’ Gibbon memorial game on the Saturday 16th. Those interested in standing for election to the club’s board are asked to get in touch ahead of Friday’s deadline for nominations, roles include Chairman, Business & Finance Director, Communications Officer and Chair of Rugby.

Throughout June the club will be open for live viewing of the three England v South Africa Test Matches (ko 4.05pm), as well as the annual Beer, Gin & Prosecco Festival on the weekend of 22-24 June.
