Lidl plans store and 51 homes for town
AMULTI-MILLION pound Lidl supermarket could be built in Ormskirk – as well as 51 affordable homes.
The planned 1,100 square metre store would be on land off Hattersley Way, and create about 40 jobs.
Lidl made the announcement after confirming that it had exchanged contracts with Citypark Projects, securing the site.
The supermarket is just part of a planned development which will include building 51 affordable homes for Chorley Community Housing, part of Jigsaw Homes Group, as well as six small flexible employment/retail units.
The supermarket is to feature facilities such as an in-store bakery, longerstyle tills with dual packing, customer toilets, and ample parking – including two spaces with electric car charging points.
Chorley Community Housing plans to provide the 51 homes, which will range from one-bedroom apartments through to three-bed-room family houses.
The six retail units are designed with starter businesses and smaller companies in mind, and it is estimated that they will create between 20 and 50 jobs – bringing the total for the site up to a maximum of 90 jobs.
It is expected that a planning application will be submitted to West Lancashire Borough Council in the coming weeks.
Residents are invited to attend a public consultation event on the whole development, which will take place between 3pm and 7.30pm on Monday, June 25 at Ormskirk Rugby Club in Green Lane.
The development team, including representatives from Lidl, Chorley Community Housing and Citypark will be on hand to outline the plans and answer any questions.
Lidl UK’s regional head of property, Stuart Jardine, said: “We are delighted at the prospect of opening a new store in Ormskirk, which marks another milestone in our ambitious store expansion programme.
“We’ve seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across the country and look forward to offering our quality products and incredible value to shoppers in and around Ormskirk.
“Working with our partners Citypark, Stanley Investments and Chorley Community Housing, we look forward to welcoming members of the public to view the plans whilst answering any questions potential customers may have.”
