ALMOST 1,800 people turned out to the first Open Farm Sunday event in Hesketh Bank.

Huntapac Produce Ltd opened the gates at its Marsh Farm to the public as park of the national event and visitors enjoyed a day packed with activities and exhibitions.

The sun shone all day, giving everyone a chance to fully enjoy all the attractions available.

Vintage Huntapac wagons and trucks were on show, dating back to 1954, while modern tractors and assorted farm vehicles were also on display and everyone loved climbing on board to take a picture.

A trailer pulled by a tractor provided a fun and bumpy ride for everyone – spotting local wildlife and bird houses along the way.

Farming machinery demonstrations took place throughout the day to show how seeds are sown and how vegetables are harvested.

There was also a pick your own lettuce field where everyone was able to pick a lettuce or two to take home, a hands-on farming activity which put a smile on many faces.

In the marquee, the fun continued with face painting, farm yard animal mask making and children were also given the chance to paint of bird houses and wooden birds.

A spokesman for the farm said: “Huntapac would like to take this opportunity to thank all their sponsors, local businesses and employees who assisted in making the day such an amazing event and raising a grand total of £1,409 that will go to Derian House Hospice.”
