Skem’s plan to come home

- SKELMERSDALE UTD

THE new season is growing near for Skelmersdale United and they are looking to the future.

But not just the near future - they are planning for the time when they will return to Skelmersdale from their present base at Prescot Cables.

It is well documented how Skelmersdale United were forcibly moved from their Stormy Corner ground in October last year, what is less well spoken about is their plan to return to Skelmersdale pretty soon and they have strong hopes that it will be before the end of the coming season.

At present it cannot be said when it will happen, but it isn’t that far away. The club will however need to put quite a bit of infrastructure into place to carry this through, no doubt walls, stands and the general things you would expect to find on a non-league football ground.

Skelmersdale United are planning the finance and support they will need to achieve this aim, with their new appeal.

They are inviting the business community of the town to get on board with them and be part of the big return to Skelmersdale.

This week the club issued the following statement: “The management Board at Skelmersdale United are presently engaged in negotiations to bring your town club back home and this will be in the foreseeable future.

“This will though incur heavy costs and as such we are hoping that you in the local business community would look favourably on what we have to offer and enter into one of our sponsorship packages.

This is not just a case of sending out the begging bowl, it’s about what we can do for you or your company in return.

“Now is the time we need your support more than ever so that we can make plans, this is about YOUR town’s local Football club future.

“This season the team will have a more local element and we will be holding open trials nights at the JMO (Blaguegate Lane) in the hope we can find some local talent once more to pull on the club’s first team shirt, a kit that could feature YOUR Company name and logo.

“It’s not all about spending thousands, just helping the club when it needs it most, we can also speak with you about tailoring packages to suit your particular needs.”

A club official added: “Naturally we would love somebody to come in with £10,000 and they would be made very welcome, but smaller businesses can play their part too, £100 and £200 sponsorships would be excellent and we will make them equally welcome, they would be playing their part in bringing the town team home to Skelmersdale.”

The spokesperson at the club also commented on season ticket sales, which they said are going “really well” adding “it is great that they are showing confidence in the club.”

Season tickets are on sale via the below contacts for £120 for Adults and £60 for Concessions.
