Charity camp set up in Louis’ name

-

INTO the Ark Childcare and Forest School, Ormskirk recently held a charity Lifting Louis Charity Camp, in aid of former pupil Louis Wright.

Louis started at Into The Ark back in 2012, before leaving for primary school in 2017.

Sometime after leaving the school Louis was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Ever since Louis was diagnosed, his parents Laura and Phil have been working tirelessly to fundraise for Duchenne UK, a charity who fund vital research into prolonging the life and mobility of those children suffering from the condition and to hopefully one day find a cure.

Laura and Phil set up their own charity Lifting Louis which supports Duchenne UK.

Amy Mackintosh, from Into the Ark Childcare and Forest School, said: “We realised that the best way we could support the family would be to support their fundraising efforts.”

The camp was held at Gibraltar Farm Campsite in Silverdale, which was provided by a family member of care workers Jenna and Amy Mackintosh and was also in aid of Lifting Louis, the charity started by his family.

The first charity camp was held last year, which was a huge success with over 20 families attending whose children attend Into the Ark, it and managed to raise just over £2000 with the camp fees and sponsored scavenger hunt.

This year’s camp was held from May 31 to June 2 and was even bigger.

There were approximately 30 families who attended and spent three days having a blast in sunny Silverdale; these families included children that attend the nursery, alongside other families with children with DMD.

The children and parents all got on famously.

The team also ran sponsored scavenger hunt, finding clues and completing challenges all over the campsite and beyond.

It was a huge success, the children were all sponsored and organisers hope the final total for the three days will exceed £2,500.

Jenna Mackintosh, from Into the Ark Childcare and Forest School, said: “We hope to continue to run our Lifting Louis Charity Camps every year and to continue to help out with other fundraising events.

“In addition to fundraising it is also about increasing awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and supporting families of children who are suffering from the condition.

“Ourselves and all the friends and families of those with children with DMD will continue to fight until a cure is found. Let’s hope it’s soon.”
