I once baked for Billy and Jools – now I’m opening up in Ormskirk

-

AMAN who once baked for Billy Ocean and Jools Holland is opening a new ‘unique’ eatery in Ormskirk town centre.

The Bagel Deli, located on Moor Street, is set to open towards the end of this month - although a specific date has not yet been confirmed.

The new eatery is the brainchild of Martin Fautley, who is originally from East London.

The 47-year-old’s passion for baking developed after he began working at Beigel Bake on Brick Lane, in London, at the age of 14.

He worked at the shop for 17 years, and fed many famous faces during in that time - including Billy Ocean and Jools Holland.

After the birth of his second child, the Bethnal Green man then made the decision to move to Southport.

After filling a variety of job roles, Martin has now made the decision to go back to his passion and open his own bakery in Ormskirk.

He said: “My love and my passion is for baking.

“I’ll be making the bagels fresh to order in front of the customers, like I used to do. They will see the process from start to finish.

“There will be an extensive variety of bagels on offer, including poppyseed, jalapeño and ‘rainbow’.

“Finding a freshly made bagel is rare, which is what makes my business unique.”

To give the customers choice, Martin also plans to offer jacket potatos, paninis, a deli and a salad bar.

Martin added: “The business is all about fresh, clean and tasty food that is great quality.

“I want customers and staff to be happy and to enjoy the experience.”

Despite living in Southport, Martin decided that Ormskirk would be the ideal place to start up his bakery.

He explained: “Ormskirk really is a great place. There are hardly any closed shops and the market is always thriving.

“I thought about opening the bakery in other places, but they just weren’t suitable. The footfall is great in Ormskirk.”

So far, the store has created just one full time job, but it is hoped that more jobs will become available when it officially opens.

If the business goes to plan, Martin hopes to introduce a local delivery service and expand his empire to various other towns - including Southport.

He said: “I am wanting to expand pretty quick after opening.

“I’m planning of making some money and opening up more stores.

“I am being brave with this business idea, and doing this all on my own.”
