Horror as dad, 48, attacked in front of family

AMAN had his leg broken in three places in a “brutal and sustained” daylight attack in front of his family.

Lancashire Police is appealing for informatio­n after the man was attacked in Skelmersda­le at around 8pm last Wednesday evening.

The shocking assault took place on the wooded footpath that runs from Yewdale, over the River Tawd, to Skelmersda­le Library.

The victim, a 48-yearold man, was walking with his wife, son and two dogs towards Yewdale on the river path.

A male on a bike rode past and exchanged words with the victim.

The cyclist then got off the bike and attacked the man, breaking his leg in the assault.

The victim suffered fractures to his ankle, fibula and knee.

The attacker then made off from the scene towards the library. He is described as a white male, aged 17, 5ft 10in. He was wearing an orange zip-up coat, shorts and rode a red and black bicycle.

Det Con Kelly Rosenthal, of Lancashire Police, said: “This was a brutal and sustained attack on a man in front of his family.

“The attacker showed a complete disregard for the victim, breaking his leg during the assault.

“We would urge anyone who recognises the offender

“If you can help, please contact us on 101, quoting log number 1435 of August 8.” to come forward.
