Questions on delays over resort bar attack

-

SPANISH and UK authorities are working together after comedian Jimmy Carol was attacked in a bar fight in Spain.

The Burscough resident was placed in an induced coma at a hospital in Alicante after suffering a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

Jimmy, 63, was attacked at the Good Times Bar & Bistro in Benidorm opposite a bar where he was working between 11.50pm on Tuesday, July 3 and 12.30am on Wednesday, July 4, according to the Daily Mirror.

Former BBC radio host Jimmy reportedly stepped in to break up a fight before then being attacked himself.

He was brought back to the UK last month and suffered from post traumatic amnesia (PTA) after awaking from his coma.

A online fundraising page has been set up to offer a reward to catch the attacker, who was described as wearing a red England shirt, with £6,000 of the £20,000 already donated.

Alan Duncan, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, recently said that the UK’s staff are in talks with Spanish police over the investigation.

Mr Duncan was responding to a question from Rosie Cooper in the House of Commons.

The West Lancs MP followed up by asking for the cause of the “serious delay” in the investigation.

He answered: “The circumstances were a little confusing. The Spanish police might have seen it as a straightforward pub brawl, when in fact Mr Carol was intervening to back up some women who were being badly harassed.

“I think the answer to the Honourable Lady’s question is that it took some time for the local police to pass the case on to the national police.”
