Good citizens do their bit at park

YOUNG people from the National Citizen Service (NCS) have been working on projects with West Lancashire Borough Council’s Parks and Countrysid­e Rangers Service in Coronation Park.

NCS is a programme for 15-17-year-olds, giving them the opportunit­y to develop their skills including social, planning and team work to achieve a successful final project.

Two of this year’s teams decided to focus their projects on during the school holidays and Coronation Park, Ormskirk. implementi­ng their very own

The teams have been assisting projects on site. with the Junior rangers events One team created a fairy trail through one of the woodlands, whilst the second team created small animal homes, to help our animal friends through the winter period. They also ran a social picnic for the local residents living near the park. The Parks and Countrysid­e rangers would like to thank the teams for their enthusiasm and motivation throughout the holidays and wish them every success for the future.

Heidi McDougall, West Lancashire Borough Council, director of leisure and environmen­t, said: “We are very grateful to the young people from the National Citizen Service for their efforts working alongside the Parks and Countrysid­e Rangers over the summer.

“The two projects developed by the teams are fantastic and enhance the park for visitors and wildlife.”
