A frying visit for fish & chip fans in hurry!
FISH and chip lovers can enjoy their favourite takeaway on-the-go, after Sooty’s Cafe opened a drivethrough chippy.
The Tarleton cafe, part of Sooty’s Plants garden centre, on Southport New Road, has introduced the novel idea after customers expressed interest in taking their food away on the cafe’s “Fish Friday” evening menu.
General manager of the cafe, Stewart Hughes, said: “The idea for a drive thru fish and chip chop came mostly from customers.
“We have had a lot of our customers, especially on our ‘Fish Friday’ evening, enquiring about a takeaway option for our menu, which is where the idea for the drive-through has originated from.”
He added that the popularity of the cafe’s fish and chips comes from their use of hand-picked local produce.
“We serve a lot of fish and chips here at Sweeps Cafe, all of which is locally sourced, with fish from Peet’s Plaice on Cambridge Rd, Southport, potatoes from Baxters at Highbrow farm, which allows us to provide excellent quality, local produce which has been a major contributing factor to our popularity.”
Sweep’s has an extensive menu aside from fish and chips, but there are currently no plans to make everything available to take away.
Mr Hughes said: “The drive-through menu is short and sweet for the time being, with means to expand the menu, but more towards your ‘local chippy’ with the twist of it being drive-through only, as opposed to the cafe menu.
“So, the menu may expand in time, but not to the extent of the cafe’s menu.”
He added: “The response from our customers has been excellent. I have spoken to many myself who have had nothing but positive things to say about the idea, saying they’ve never seen anything like it before, and that it is a great idea.
“What we are hoping to achieve is to provide the same great quality, locally-sourced produce, with the same passionate and friendly service that we have always strived to provide here, to a wider range of people, with the added benefit of being able to provide this service on the go!”
The drive-through chip shop opened on Saturday and will be open TuesdaySaturday, from 4.30pm until 8.30pm.
