SOUTHPORT Comedy Festival is now under way and 10 brave people are gearing up to take part in the Community Link Foundation Comedy Workshop Showcase.

Community Link Foundation is delighted to be the chosen charity for this event for the fifth consecutive year.

This year’s workshop takes place at the Ramada Plaza on Sunday, October 21 and is set to be a night of chuckles and laughter.

The showcase brings together 10 people from across the town and they are trained for six weeks by professional comedian Bren Riley.

The material is their own but Bren gives them tips and training of how to perform to an audience, and of course, how to make them laugh.

At the end of the six weeks they have to perform in front of 250 people!

This year’s contestants are Ashleigh Morris, Chris Johnston, David Ash, Dereck Littlejohn, Ian Cleverdon, Nigel Mawdsley, Marianne Hynes, and Mark Cunningham of Anthony James Estate Agents – who are sponsors of the Comedy Festival and support it every year.

The event will see them all perform live comedy for the first time.

Enda Rylands, chairman of Community Link Foundation said: “We are delighted to be the chosen charity for this event again this year.

“It is always such a brilliant night and I really admire the people who are taking part.

“It must be very daunting to stand in front of so many people and make them laugh, so we are incredibly grateful for their support.

“Funds raised at events like this allow us to help even more people in the community who apply to us for grants.

“We are very grateful to everyone at Southport Comedy Festival for supporting Community Link Foundation.”

Bren Riley, director of Southport Comedy Festival, explained: “There is no better way to raise money than by raising a smile, and that is what we aim to do.

“We are delighted to be working with Community Link Foundation again as we have seen the excellent causes that they help in the local area.”

You can buy tickets for the event direct from the Ramada reception on the Promenade or go to www. southportcomedyfestival.com.
