More change still needed at care home
AN ORMSKIRK care home which was slated by inspectors earlier this year has been ordered to improve for the third consecutive time.
But inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) praised the management of Abbey Wood Lodge for making significant steps forwards since its last inspection.
The CQC returned to Abbey Lodge, in County Road, in August and has now published its latest findings, which still rate the home as “Requires Improvement”.
The home, owned by the Athena Healthcare Group, was inspected after informing the CQC of a “safeguarding matter” which was also reported to the police and Lancashire County Council. That matter has not been publicly revealed.
During the inspection, it was found that many recommendations from the previous visit – relating to issues such as safe administration of drugs, staff levels, and assessments for risks to residents’ health and wellbeing – had all been acted upon.
Fresh recommendations were made over dealing with complaints and avoiding malnutrition and dehydration.
In the final report, three of the five categories (safety, effectiveness and leadership) were rated as needing improvement, and two (caring and responsive) were “Good”.
An Athena spokesman said: “We are very pleased that the CQC have identified the significant improvements at Abbey Wood Lodge, having met with regulatory expectations and requirements.
“We would like to thank all the team at Abbey Wood Lodge for all their efforts and hard work.”
