THERE’S only a few days to go until one of the best events of the year when the Community Link Foundation Comedy Workshop Showcase takes place.
The event is being held at the Ramada Plaza on Sunday night (October 21) and is guaranteed to have you laughing in the aisles.
Ten brave volunteers from the Southport area have stepped forward to take part in the comedy showcase and over the past six weeks they have been participating in workshops with professional comedian, Bren Riley.
Bren, who organises the Southport Comedy Festival, coaches them in how to perform to an audience, how to make people laugh and gives plenty of tips and techniques along the way.
The material they perform to the 250-strong audience is all their own and it is the first time any of them have performed stand up comedy.
This year’s contestants are Ashleigh Morris, Chris Johnston, David Ash, Dereck Littlejohn, Ian Cleverdon, Nigel Mawdsley, Marianne Hynes and Mark Cunningham of Anthony James Estate Agents who are sponsors of the Comedy Festival and have supported it every year since its inception.
Enda Rylands, chairman of Community Link Foundation, said: “We always look forward to this night so much as it is great to see so many people stepping outside of their comfort zone and trying something new.
“We are absolutely delighted and very grateful to be the chosen charity again this year and we are so thankful to everyone for their support whether that is by taking part on stage or taking a seat in the audience.
“Funds raised at events like this allow us to continue to help people in the community who apply to us for grants.
“We are very grateful to everyone at Southport Comedy Festival for supporting Community Link Foundation and congratulate them on another excellent festival.”
You can buy tickets for the event direct from the Ramada reception on the Promenade or go to www. southportcomedyfestival.com.
