Arrested men freed after body discovered

-

FOUR men arrested over the suspected murder of a man have been released without charge.

The body of a 34-yearold man was found in a house on Ivydale, Skelmersdale, at around 5.30am on Tuesday.

Lancashire police confirmed they had arrested a number of men, aged 31, 35, 40 and 41, on suspicion of murder, after treating the death as unexplained.

But later the police force confirmed that all four had been released following the results of a post mortem examination.

According to a spokesperson, the death is no longer being treated as suspicious.

In a statement, the force said: “Police were called at around 5.30am this morning (October 23) after a man, 34, had sadly been found dead in a house on Ivydale. A post mortem examination has since been carried out and his death is not being treated as suspicious.”

DCI Zoe Russo, from Lancashire’s force major investigation team, said: “While this is the tragic death of a young man, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances and a file will now be prepared for the Coroner.”

Neighbours at the scene said that a woman discovered the man’s body after pushing open the front door, which had been ajar.

Locals also said that they knew the dead man to say hello to and came across him while smoking in the narrow alleys on the housing estate.

The terraced home was cordoned off by police, with officers standing guard in front of and behind the property under examination.
