Diamond night out

-

THE Clatterbridge Cancer Charity Diamond Ball raised an amazing £150,120 to help transform cancer care.

The event, at The Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, was hosted by Jay Hynd, from The Guide Liverpool, and Capital Liverpool radio presenter Gemma Cutting.

The ball was attended by well-known names including ex-Liverpool footballer John Barnes, Merseyside Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, Merseyside entrepreneur Asif Hamid, TV presenter Ranvir Singh, and restaurateur Nisha Katona, founder of Mowgli Street Food.

There was a drinks reception courtesy of Panoramic34 and Gusbourne before a three-course meal.

Entertainment was provided by The Mersey Boys and Shirley Bassey tribute act Rachael Roberts.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is working to raise £15m towards the construction of a specialist hospital in Liverpool, to open in 2020.

The £150,120 raised on the night will help fund an area in the new hospital that will provide innovative immunotherapy treatment.

One person who understands the need for this is patient Carl Horribin who spoke to guests on the night.

Carl, 43, from Heswall, was diagnosed with skin cancer that spread to his lungs. He started immunotherapy this year with remarkable success.

Carl, who was at the ball with wife Emma, said: “When I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in my lungs all I wanted to know was that I would see my daughter start school.

“She did that last month. Now thanks to this treatment I will see her finish school.

“I would like to say thank you so much to all the generous people who contributed to the fantastic amount raised on the night.

“It will make a real difference.”
