CHAD Whyte scored all five goals as Burscough demolished New Mills 5-1 in the Macron Cup last weekend.

Linnets reached the final of the competition under Dave Sutton last term, eventually losing out to Widnes at Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium after also escaping relegation from the HSL Premier Division.

Whyte has already scored 15 goals this season and has continued his impressive form at the club after finishing as last

Byear’s top scorer despite arriving midway through the campaign.

Interestingly, Whyte isn’t the first player to bag five for Linnets in an official game.

John Yates, co-author of ‘Green Village Heroes - the History of Burscough FC,’ said: ‘’To score five goals in one match at any level of football is a fine achievement and it’s something the lad will probably remember for the rest of his career.

‘’But he isn’t the first Burscough no.9 to complete a nap hand. Brian Robinson hit five in a 10-0 home win over Nelson on September 3, 1968.’’

Burscough officials confirmed last week that an interview URSCOUGH centre-forward Chad Whyte is setting the standards in the North-West Counties League this season, scoring all five Linnets goals on Saturday.

His five goal haul is the most by any single player in any North-West Counties League competition so far this season.

Furthermore, Whyte has now scored more goals than any Premier Division player this season. shortlist for the managerial position at the club has been drawn up.

Interviews are scheduled to take place in the near future despite Sutton - who is continuing in the dugout until the appointment of a new boss before reverting to his director of football role - helping guide Linnets to four wins and a draw in their last eight games.

Burscough are currently 17th in the league but have played several games less than some of their rivals due to cup commitments.

Sandbach United will travel to Victoria Park on the 10th November for the next round of the Macron Cup following last weekend’s victory.

After scoring more than 40 goals last season, many were commenting that he had made a slow start to the season.

The Linnets reached the final of the Macron (League) Cup last season and cleared the first hurdle with relative ease and will host Sandbach United in the next round on Saturday, November 10.

Whyte took less than a minute to give Burscough the lead, but then they were put under some pressure by the men from the Peak District, resulting in Aaron Dwyer hitting the Linnets crossbar.

In the 25th minute The Millers equalised.

Dwyer swung in a corner and Joe Armstrong was left completely unmarked and duly fired home from close range.

Stung into action, two minutes later Burscough restored their lead.

Terry Cummings’ shot was parried by the New Mills goalkeeper and Whyte, who was sniffing around for the rebound, stuck the ball in the net.

After going close to a third just before half-time the Linnets got themselves some breathing space straight after the restart, Whyte netting again five minutes in to make it 3-1, at the same time completing his hat-trick. It took Burscough until 11 minutes from the end to completely finish New Mills off and who else but Whyte.

Jamie Clark put a cross in from the left and it was headed back across the box, from where Whyte netted.

Just as the game approached added time Whyte made it a nap hand, Clark hit the post with a free-kick and Whyte was left to celebrate a memorable afternoon with his and Burscough’s fifth goal.

Burscough face a difficult one on Saturday when they cross the Mersey Gateway to play promotion chasing Runcorn Town, it would be an achievement to bring anything back from there, but on present form they are well capable of doing so.

The Linnets then have back to back games against local rivals Charnock Richard, first travelling over Parbold Hill on Tuesday, October 30 then entertaining them on Saturday, November 3.

Both last seasons’ Parbold Hill Derbies were closely fought encounters.

There is every expectation that this season’s will be too.
