Stolen car crashes into van after chase

A CAR stolen from an Ormskirk home was crashed into a parked van after the driver was chased by police.

The BMW X1 crashed into the van on Liverpool Road South, Burscough, moments after being seen driven at speed and erraticall­y elsewhere in the town.

Witnesses said that two men ran from the car after the crash, which happened at around 7.30pm on Tuesday, November 6.

The car was stolen from Cottage Lane on Sunday night or Monday morning and was seen in Preston on Tuesday.

After seeing the BMW near the docks, police began to chase the vehicle but lost track.

It was then found crashed in Burscough later that evening.

Residents reported hearing a loud noise when the crash happened and officers had to close the road and set up diversions in the aftermath.

Police say that no one was found after the collision and no-one has been arrested in connection with the burglary.

A spokesman for Lancashire police said: “A BMW X1 was stolen overnight November 4/5 from Cottage Lane, Ormskirk, during a burglary.

“The same vehicle was spotted around the docks area of Preston and it was followed out of Preston but was eventually lost.

“After searching the Burscough area, the vehicle was located, having crashed into another stationary vehicle.

“No one was found or arrested and inquiries are on-going.”
