Drug farm uncovered after blaze
POLICE are investigating after a cannabis farm was uncovered during a fire in Skelmersdale.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) was called to a fire at an upstairs flat on Uppingham on Saturday night and, once on the scene, discovered the property was being used to grow the Class B drug.
Nobody was present at the flat and no arrests have since been made in relation to the cannabis growth.
The fire was not believed to have been started deliberately.
A police spokesman said: “We got called at 23.55 by the fire service because it was believed the fire related to a cannabis set-up at the property.
“There was nobody at the scene and no-one was injured.”
A fire service spokesman said: “At 22.32 two fire engines from Skelm- ersdale attended a fire at a first floor flat in Uppingham in Skelmersdale. Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, one tool kit, a positive ventilation unit and a partner saw to extinguish the fire and were on the scene for fifty four minutes.
“This incident was handed over to Lancashire Constabulary.”
