POLICE are investigating after a cannabis farm was uncovered during a fire in Skelmersdale.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) was called to a fire at an upstairs flat on Uppingham on Saturday night and, once on the scene, discovered the property was being used to grow the Class B drug.

Nobody was present at the flat and no arrests have since been made in relation to the cannabis growth.

The fire was not believed to have been started deliberately.

A police spokesman said: “We got called at 23.55 by the fire service because it was believed the fire related to a cannabis set-up at the property.

“There was nobody at the scene and no-one was injured.”

A fire service spokesman said: “At 22.32 two fire engines from Skelm- ersdale attended a fire at a first floor flat in Uppingham in Skelmersdale. Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, one tool kit, a positive ventilation unit and a partner saw to extinguish the fire and were on the scene for fifty four minutes.

“This incident was handed over to Lancashire Constabulary.”

Police are urging anyone with details to contact the force by calling 101 and quoting log number 1609 of November 10.
