Visitors to Blues left in the pink

-

AGROUP of care home residents enjoyed a recent trip to Goodison Park.

Athena Healthcare Group residents from Abbey Wood Lodge in Ormskirk, Parklands Lodge in Southport, and Woodlands Lodge in Formby had a tour around the ground organised by Henry Mooney from Everton in the Community.

One of the residents, Wilf Cockbain, 103, a resident at Parklands Lodge, spoke about visiting Goodison Park he was a young boy with his dad to a watch Everton play.

Another resident had a brother called Jimmy Tansey, who played for Everton in the 1950s. He was able to look back at the framed football team photos of his brother with happy tears.

Another resident said he would remember the day for a long time, especially after sitting in one of the high outside boxes overlooking the pitch.

Athena Healthcare got involved with Henry Mooney in March, when a North West monthly community activity hub was set up, helping all care homes activity co-ordinators to share their ideas and contacts with each other.

The activity hub also meets up once a month with residents dining out at restaurants and hotels for meals and afternoon teas.

The activity hub team thanked Henry and all the staff at Everton for their help with the event, which gave residents some great memories.

Anyone who would like to get involved with the Community Activity Hub, should contact Athena’s Group ambassador, Lesley Malone, on 01704 535353.
