Youth development a big draw for new boss Terry
NEW Burscough boss Terry Green has admitted the club’s desire to develop young players attracted him to the vacancy at Victoria Park.
Green penned a new two-year deal as assistant boss of fellow HSL Premier Division outfit Squires Gate in April but took charge of his first game as Linnets boss in a 1-1 draw against his former club last night.
Jordan Casey netted on his debut for Green’s side and looked to have handed Burscough all three points until Dean Ing’s stoppage time strike denied the manager a dream start.
“The advertisement came out and it suited my personal circumstances with the work that I do,” Green said in his first interview since being appointed.
“The development the club is going through at the moment, the development of the kids and the work they do with young players is something I’ve always been interested in.
“In terms of developing young people coming through the system, especially with the way the professional game is going, 18 and 19-year-old’s, they need a bit of a kick-start into non-league football, so it suited me perfectly.
“I was talking to the people at the club, the directors and chairman, and they’ve got a nice little vision for the club.
“It’s always been a place when you go to it’s nice and friendly.”
Green also revealed his intentions to add to the squad at Victoria Park and laid out his intentions for the season ahead.
On his first tasks at the club after being appointed, the new boss added: “I think immediately it’s a get-to-know basis.
“The players there already have done well this season and had some fantastic results against top teams.
“It’s just a case of them getting to know me, me getting to know them and the contacts I’ve got being used to bring players in to stabilise the squad and giving everyone an opportunity to prove themselves to me.
“We just want to try and get a bit of consistency and fluency within the team and look for a mid-table finish.”
