Chocs and Bailey’s for Lil at 100!
AN ORMSKIRK woman celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday, November 15 – a remarkable achievement marked by a telegram from the Queen.
Lil Livesy was born in Orrell Park and she married her late husband, Tom – a former Everton footballer – in 1939 at St John’s Church in Walton moving to Ormskirk.
Her working life was spent doing office work around the town, and she has lived in the same house for the past 79 years.
To commemorate the special day, Lil’s hairdresser, Jude Swarbrick, organised an afternoon tea at Scarisbrick Marina with three of Lil’s close friends, who all met through K-Kuts salon on County Road.
Jude said: “I love Lil, we just couldn’t miss a 100th birthday, it’s so special I thought I had to do something.
“I just think she’s marvellous, she’s my best friend and there’s 50 years between us.
“I’ve been cutting her hair for 15 years.”
Lil was especially pleased to have received a birthday message from the Queen.
She said: “I thought it was lovely, I really did enjoy that when it came on the day.”
Unfortunately, Lil was unable to reveal the secret to living to see 100.
She said: “I wouldn’t know the secret, maybe chocolate and Bailey’s!
“Just eat normally, I’m not one for going on slimming diets, I don’t believe in anything like that.”
Olive Brown is a neighbour and close friend of Lil’s and was at the Marina to celebrate with her.
She said: “It’s an honour to know somebody that is 100. “She’s such a genuinely lovely person. “I’m her neighbour so I keep watch on her, keep her in check and see that she behaves!”
One special guest at the afternoon tea was Vera Todd, who speaks to Lil on the phone every week but hasn’t seen her in the flesh for 12 years.
Vera said: “I don’t get out any more, so I ring her every week.
“I phone her up and we put the world to rights, talking about old times.”
Joan Sunderland visits Lil weekly, and added: “She’s wonderful, she really is one in a million!”
