School CCTV appeal after bike theft

-

APRIMARY school shared CCTV footage after a child’s bike was stolen from the grounds.

Stephen Smith, head teacher of Tarleton Holy Trinity, contacted parents after the mountain bike was taken last Thursday.

The Apollo bike was stolen at about 3.15pm, minutes after the school gates had been opened to allow parents entry to the grounds to collect their children.

The following day, the school shared a video reportedly showing two boys walking across the playground before one runs out of shot and then returns riding a bicycle.

In Mr Smith’s message, the alleged offenders are described as two white, male teenagers, aged about 14, wearing winter coats with hoods up.

He added that one coat was said to be a grey “puffer” coat and that the teenager wearing it was wearing glasses and had a “spotty” face.

Both boys were wearing black school uniform trousers.

Writing to parents, Mr Smith said: “It is a dark blue Apollo mountain bike with the word ‘Interzone’ on the downtube of the frame (very similar to the one in the picture).

“It also has luminous green brake and gear cables. The police have been informed and the CCTV footage analysed but if you have any information that you think may help retrieve the bike or get the suspects caught, please get in touch.

“In the meantime, please can I ask that if children do come on their bikes to school, they lock them up, preferably to the railings underneath the kitchen window.

“My huge apologies go to the child and indeed the family of the child whose bike was stolen.”

The bike was later found and returned to the owner but it is not yet known who carried out the theft.
