MORE than nine in 10 primary school pupils attend good or outstanding schools across the county, according to the latest Ofsted figures.

Date from the latest Ofsted annual report show that the vast majority of Lancashire’s children and young people continue to be taught in schools in the highest two categories.

The report shows that 92% of primary age pupils in the county attend schools that have been judged to be good or outstanding, compared with the national average of 87%, and the North West average of 90%.

Meanwhile, 73% of the county’s pupils attend secondary schools with those ratings, higher than the North West average of 67%.

Outstanding schools in West Lancashire include Ormskirk Asmall Primary School, Westhead Lathom St James’ Church of England Primary School, Aughton St Michael’s Church of England Primary School and St Richard’s Catholic Primary School in Skelmersdale.

Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for children, young people and schools, County Cllr Susie Charles, said: “Educational performance in Lancashire continues to set a high standard in the region, and compares well with the national average.

“I’m really proud of these results. They are a testament to the high quality of the teaching in our schools and the commitment of pupils and their families to learning. And they show that the overall standard of education in Lancashire is up there with the best in the region.

“We certainly won’t rest on our laurels though and we’ll continue to make sure that we fulfil our aim of all our pupils being able to attend a school which is rated as good or outstanding. We remain committed to building even further upon this achievement.”
