Council gives a Christmas gift of free parking

-

VISITORS to Ormskirk will be able to take their time with their Christmas shopping this year with a free parking offer.

Up until Monday, December 24, drivers who buy a pay and display ticket will receive an additional two hours free parking.

The offer doesn’t apply to council offices car park on Derby Street.

When combined with the recent changes to parking charges in Ormskirk town centre car parks this means drivers can park for up to five hours in all the other council run car parks for £1.

Cllr John Hodson, portfolio holder for planning, said: “Christmas is a very special time of year and this parking offer will be a great help to people and encourage them to spend time in Ormskirk this festive season.”

Motorists should check the car park is council-controlled and that a valid, paid-for ticket is displayed accordingly.

The two extra free hours will not be shown on the ticket, so for anyone buying a ticket at 10am for three hours’ parking, the ticket will still show an expiry time of 1pm.

But, during the special offer period, they will be able to park until 3pm.

Notices explaining the offer will be on display at the car parks.

Parking wardens are aware of the offer and will allow for the extra two hours after the indicated expiry time.

Parking is free on council-controlled car parks in Ormskirk town centre on Sundays and Bank Holidays throughout the year.
