TERRY Green has admitted the loan signing of Tranmere Rovers midfielder Jay Devine is in doubt after a change in FA rulings.

Devine, 19, started training with Burscough last week after a previous spell with Colwyn Bay.

The first-year professional was on course to make his debut at Hanley Town last weekend but Green revealed the reason behind his absence.

“There are a few issues with the FA,” the new Linnets boss said. “There has been a change in the rulings regarding step one to step six loans so for now Jay is just training with us.

“He’s a brilliant, down-toearth lad who comes very highly recommended by [Tranmere Rovers manager] Micky Mellon so we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Burscough also bounced back from Saturday’s heavy 6-2 Macron Cup defeat to City of Liverpool with victory over Ashton Athletic on Tuesday evening.

Linnets took the lead through Yves Zama early in the game but lost Daniel Green - son of manager Terry - to a red card after just 35 minutes.

Chad Whyte doubled the visitors advantage after the break, however, with Burscough hanging on in the final stages after Ashton pulled one back just minutes later.

“We’re still suffering with a lot of injuries, worse than I’ve ever had in football, but we’ll see how they go,” Green admitted during the week as he nurses a long injury list.

Burscough face four games between now and Boxing Day with Abbey Hey, Runcorn Town and Litherland REMYCA all visiting Victoria Park.

Linnets travel to Winsford United three days before Christmas.

Green’s arrival at the club has coincided with a strong run of form for the Linnets after the Squires Gate assistant was named as manager at the beginning of November.

The club are currently three points off the top six in 11th place after losing just one of Green’s opening seven league matches in charge and recording three consecutive wins in the HSL Premier Division.
