Boy, 14, hurt in bus collision

-

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was airlifted to hospital after he was hit by a bus.

The teenager suffered a broken pelvis and facial injuries after the crash on County Road, near the Hayfield pub, on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to the notoriously dangerous stretch of road at around 2.40pm, with an air ambulance landing at Ormskirk Rugby Club

The boy was flown to Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, where he remains in a stable condition.

Police closed the road, a main route through Ormskirk, for hours after the collision and witnesses reported seeing five police cars and ambulance vehicles at the scene. A Lancashire police spokesman said: “We were called at around 2.40pm on Sunday to reports of a collision on County Road, Ormskirk, between a 14-year-old boy and a bus.

“The boy suffered a broken pelvis and minor facial injuries and was taken to Alder Hey Hospital for treatment.”

In November last year, Lancashire County Council agreed to reduce the speed limit along County Road from 40mph to 30mph after a series of serious crashes.

The decision came after council officials met police weeks after 69-year-old John Roberts died in a crash outside the Hayfield pub, in December, 2017.

Four months later, 31-year-old motorcyclist David John Stephens died after being thrown from his bike in a crash with a car.
