GP’s practice must improve, inspectors say
AFAMILY practice in Ormskirk still requires improvement, says a Care Quality Commission (CQC) report.
Dr Gangadhar Duddukuri’s practice, also known as Burscough Family Practice, occupies Burscough Health Centre, Stanley Court, Burscough, along with a neighbouring GP practice.
But following a CQC inspection in December last year, it was concluded that the practice required improvement.
The CQC said that “safe”, “effective” and “well-led” categories all require improvement but caring and responsive was rated good.
The report said: “The management of infection prevention and control was incomplete; there had been no full infection prevention and control audit carried out since November 2016.
“There was limited monitoring of the outcomes of care and treatment.
“The practice did not have clear and effective processes for managing risks, issues and performance.”
The CQC also said: “The practice did not have clear systems and processes to keep patients safe.
“Leaders could not always show they had the capacity and skills to deliver high quality, sustainable care.”
The comprehensive inspection was carried out as part of the CQC’s inspection programme, to see whether the breaches identified at the previous inspection had been addressed.
The practice was rated as “requires improvement” for providing safe and well-led services on 18 June 2018.
At its most recent inspection, which was led by a CQC lead inspector, it was found that although the provider had addressed the majority of these areas, further areas of concern were identified.
But the CQC did rate the practice as good for providing caring and responsive services.
The report said: “Staff dealt with patients with kindness and respect and involved them in decisions about their care.
“The practice organised and delivered services to meet patients’ needs.
“Patients could access care and treatment in a timely way.”
The practice has been at the health centre since 1980
It is registered with the CQC to provide treatment of disease, disorder or injury, maternity and midwifery, diagnostic and screening procedures and surgical procedures.
Dr Duddukuri has been provided with the legal requirements that it was not meeting and must send the CQC a report regarding what action it is going to take to meet these requirements.
