Fishermen left singing the Blues

THE closest match this week was Mixed Blues’ 40-39 defeat of Fishermen’s Rest, making the most of their three-point start.

Paul Tandy (11) and Robin McGrath (10) led for the Blues with John Ashcroft (16) leading for the visitors.

Conceding 11, Formby Sports were still four points behind MPs after seven rounds but won the last 9-1 to finish 52-48 ahead, led by good scoring from Sheila Tickle (18), Gary Buxton (17) and Keith Gowans (13) with Ann Evans (14) and Chris Hodgen and Dan Evans (both 10), leading the reply.

Conceding five, Dismounted led from the first round but St Jeromes finished strongly and finished only four behind at 39-35.

Frank Hansen and Steve Watson (both 11), and Mike Williams (10) all chipped in for Dismounted with Terry Wafer and Sue Ford (both 10) leading for the Formby side.

Heavy scoring from Dave Leyland (16), Bob Rimmer and Brian Cummins (both 15), and John Richards (13) led Devonshire Club to a 59-38 defeat of Southport FC with Geoff Wilde (10) leading for the football club.

Conceding five, E Street Band were just a point behind at half-way but Formby Pavilion finished the stronger to finish 49-37 ahead led by Margaret Coppleston­e (17) and Leon Metford (12), with Dave Nickeas (13) and Ann Page (12) leading for the home side.

Receiving 10, Vikings were always ahead against Casablanca and finished with a comfortabl­e 53-37 score, led by Kate Woods (15) and Alan Martin (14) with Dave Dutton (16) and Bill Thomson (13) leading for the visitors.

Despite scoring 51, Wings, conceding 19, never got near Quads, who played well and deserved their 60-51 win.

Tony Duffey (16) and Steve Redfern (12) led for Quads and Tom Farley (17), Bob Parry (14) and Keith Mulhearn (12) for the visitors.

Led by Leo Tobin (12) and receiving 14, ExPats were never headed at home to Zetland and finished 57-48 ahead with John Clarke (18) and Paul Edwards and Harry Owen (both 12) leading for Zetland.

Starting off level, Exams were one behind at halfway against Shifting Sands but finished much the stronger to win 42-30 led by Nick Philpott (15) and Chris Wood (11) with Derek Roberts (15) leading for Sands.
