‘Honoured’ Holly reaches No.1 in the grit parade
LANCASHIRE County Council’s winter team recently appeared on This Morning, after naming one of their gritters after presenter Holly Willoughby.
After Shropshire Council unveiled their new gritter, Phillip Snowfield, named after co-host Phillip Schofield, Lancashire County Council’s gritters decided to honour Holly in the same way.
Taking to social media, Lancashire County Council tweeted a video to the This Morning team, revealing the name of their new gritter, “Holly Chilloughby”.
The video shows Tim Black and Lee Rilet, from the Signs and Graphics Department at Lancashire County Council’s Bamber Bridge highways depot explaining and printing the name Holly Chilloughby onto the gritter.
Lee, who is also part of the gritting team during the winter, is then seen driving away in the newly-named gritter.
In the video, Tim Black said: “We’ve heard that This Morning’s Holly Willoughby doesn’t have a gritter named after her, so we thought she deserved one. She’ll be dancing on ice in no time.”
And it wasn’t long until the This Morning team responded.
Phillip Schofield said: “The winter team at Lancashire County Council have just tweeted us to reveal their brand new gritter.
“Let me present to you ... Holly Chilloughby. Look at that – this is real signage there, that’s a proper sign!”
Holly Willoughby said: “Thank you, I feel honoured, that’s very, very kind. And, if you see my gritter across the country, do take a photo and send it!”
Lancashire County Council have now revealed they will add six more new gritters to their fleet of 45 wagons and are giving county residents the opportunity to name them.
A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “We heard Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning mention that Holly doesn’t have a gritter named after her.
“We realised that, if we acted fast, it would be a perfect opportunity to promote our Name a Gritter competition, and remind people about our hard-working gritting teams who spread over 8,500 tons of salt during the recent cold snap.”
Using the hashtag #LancsWinterGritter, Lancashire residents can now post suggestions on social media until 5pm on March 1, when the competition closes.
