Edge Hill stick to the task to win title

-

EDGE Hill University’s unbeaten men’s hockey team followed on from the women’s firsts’ success by securing the Northern 3A title.

Ross Gordon, Jac Horwood and Nick Fletcher were the scorers as a 3-0 victory at Lancaster seconds clinched promotion with two fixtures remaining.

The women’s football team are in the hunt for the Northern 2A championship after overcoming a half-time deficit to win 4-1 at John Moores firsts. Ruby Howard’s second-half hat-trick turned the game, with Cara Bickett completing the scoring.

Two wins from third-placed Edge Hill’s two remaining games – against UCLAN and leaders Manchester firsts – should be enough although with Liverpool firsts in second, one goal better off than Edge Hill on the same points, a big win could be required against lowly UCLAN.

In badminton, the men’s firsts’ 8-0 whitewash over the seconds proved little use for either side as Manchester seconds clinched the Northern 3A title, with the firsts confirmed in second.

Due to an inferior games difference the seconds need four points from their last two fixtures to avoid relegation.

The firsts’ netballers rounded off a difficult campaign with a 63-24 defeat to Durham firsts while the men’s rugby union side will play next season in Northern 4A after losing 23-10 to Liverpool thirds.
