As a young family, we’re happy to live in Ormskirk – university helps town prosper
nearer to Uni would seem more sensible.”
Chelsea Middlehurst said: “I think building blocks of apartments for students is a better idea than converting what could be a family home into accommodation.
“But I also don’t agree in tearing down buildings that have been in Ormskirk for years and years and years to make room for the accommodation. They should be built closer to the Uni itself, buy empty land rather than ripping down old buildings to replace them for new ones.”
Carole Crystal said: “I feel a large amount of students should be housed on campus. There are many vulnerable teens who need support and living off campus can be really difficult for many of them. There should be small apartments which will house students of the same cohort on campus.”
Joan Roe said: “Love seeing the students. They keep the town alive.”
Leanne Berkley said: “I don’t mind accommodation blocks being built, but there is a lot of history and heritage that Ormskirk had that should be maintained, not knocked down to rebuild something unsightly.
“There is still the unspoken issue of family accommodation and young people who don’t necessarily go to Uni but don’t want to live at home or are saving to go to uni by working full time for a few years.
“Also, many times I hear of people who move to Ormskirk as a student then once studied finish they can’t find anywhere to live. More support in this area would be more welcome.”
Michelle Maskall said: “I think it’s a better idea having purpose-built accommodation for the students, this then gives young families the chance to buy affordable homes instead of them used as HMOs, which can only help the town to grow.”
Philip Rothwell said: “Ormskirk would be a lot worse off without the students. I think that planning applications should be vetted so that the proposed buildings should enhance the town centre. We have to move with the times and accept that Ormskirk is a university town.”
