Oddfellows raise funds for air ambulance
LOCAL members of the Oddfellows hosted a brass band concert to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA).
They later presented a cheque for £755.64 to the crew during a tour of Barton Airfield.
The charitable performance by touring national band Oddfellows Brass was hosted by two local branches, Mersey Oddfellows and Southport and Ormskirk Oddfellows, to raise funds for The NWAA Charity, supporting the provision of emergency helicopter recovery, treatment and transfers for people who are critically ill or injured and unable to be reached by road.
The Oddfellows is one of the UK’s largest and oldest friendly societies.
Jennifer Barry, regional fundraiser for The NWAA Charity, said: “We’re extremely grateful to the local Oddfellows members who are working hard to raise awareness and support for the work that we do.
“Ensuring our helicopters, pilots, doctors and paramedics can provide top-quality treatment and access up to date equipment is of huge importance to the many communities throughout North West.”
Margaret Hughes, branch secretary for the Mersey Oddfellows, said: “We’re so pleased to have been able to raise money for such a valuable and much-loved service in the North West.
“We hope this donation goes a long way in helping them to continue the fantastic, life-saving service they provide.”
Bonita Hesketh, branch secretary for the Ormskirk and Southport District Branch added: “Oddfellows Brass is an extremely talented group of musicians, and their concerts are always a huge hit with our members.
“To work with them and the Mersey Oddfellows in order to raise such a wonderful amount of money for the North West Air Ambulance Charity was an absolute pleasure.”
