WLM Taekwondo have three of its students who will be representing Great Britain at the forthcoming European Championships next month in Marina D’or, Spain.

Kevin Booth and Mia Hadfield, both 13-years-old, will compete at the Cadet Europeans.

BURSCOUGH manager Nick Matthews is giving back to the local community by offering his spare time to Skelmersdale PULSE (Umbrella for Learning, Socialisation and Empowerment),

The former Widnes coach, who was part of the promotion-winning backroom team of 2017 at the Halton Stadium, was appointed manager of Linnets during the summer.

PULSE, based at the Concourse shopping centre in Skelmersdale, hosts a range of activities that look to improve both mental health and physical welfare in the area.

And Matthews, who has also managed Pilkington, was determined to give something back during his time away from Victoria Park.

“I’m a lucky man,” he explained.

Jacob Wishart, aged 14, a ‘Fighting Chance’ GB Development athlete, will be competing at the Junior Europeans in the same week.

Coach Lisa Hadfield said: “As a club, we are really proud of the level of commitment that these three have shown over the months.

“They train extremely hard and also have additional “I have children and a wife who loves me.

“What is four hours a week? I’m able to go down and spend time with people who might struggle with their mental health.

“There are some amazing people working at Pulse and some of the weekend training at the GB training centre in Manchester.

“For the first time, we have students representing their country at both Cadet and Junior level – a massive achievement for WLM.”

Matthews will be hoping to arrest a six-match spell without victory this weekend when Burscough travel to Northwich Victoria.

Linnets have conceded nine goals in their last two matches - a 5-2 hammering at Avro was followed up by the 4-0 defeat to Whitchurch Alport on Monday - and currently sit two points above the lone relegation spot in the NWCFL Premier Division.

Burscough last tasted victory in the second league game of the current campaign when they overcome Squires Gate but have since lost four of the next six.

They will face either Southport or Prescot Cables in the second round of the Liverpool Senior Cup. The date of the clash is to be confirmed.

Everton and Tranmere Rovers have received byes to the quarter-finals.
