Do you have links to historic Greaves Hall?
DO YOU have any photos, memorabilia or family memories of Greaves Hall, in Banks?
Seddon Homes is building a development within the 124 acres of former gardens and landscaping which surrounded the old hall.
Workers at the site are constantly unearthing old glass bottles and fragments of pottery and china.
Seddon is planning to compile a collection of images and memories for the benefit of future residents at its Hawtree Grove development.
Head of sales & marketing at Seddon Homes, Suzanne Hallworth, said: “We feel there is such a lot of local history associated with this site.
“We are very keen to celebrate the launch of our Hawtree Grove development with memories of the Hall.”
The mock Tudor Greaves Hall was commissioned in 1900 by Sir Thomas Scarisbrick, an MP and Mayor of Southport.
Built on land given to him by his father as a wedding present, the mansion had 55 rooms, three lodge houses and an adjoining laundry and workshops.
The Scarisbrick family moved out of the hall after WWI and it remained empty throughout the 1920s.
In 1932, it was converted into a private girls school, the ballroom became the school hall and the attic rooms were reconfigured into dormitories.
The school closed in 1938, and the hall was subsequently used as a hospital until its closure in the early 1990s.
Having been empty for several years, it became structurally unsafe and was demolished the same year.
Suzanne said: “This is such a special rural location, in the hall grounds, and we are mindful of the many generations who have lived and worked here.”
The new Seddon homes at Hawtree Grove will be two, three and four bedroom properties.
