Bonfire sites named in safety campaign

-

WEST Lancashire Community Safety Partnership is working to reduce dangerous bonfires and anti-social behaviour.

Fires will only be allowed at eight designated sites owned by the council.

They can be built and lit from 4.30pm on Tuesday, November 5 at: ● Abbeystead (on gras on the right hand side). ● Alderley (left hand side on the grass by the subway to Pimbo). ● Bankfield (left hand side on the grass). ● Evington (left hand side by the play area). ● Eskbank (grassed area at the entrance). ● Hallcroft Field (on grass by the play area). ● The Winsters (grassed area on right hand side).

● Railway Road (grassed area to the rear of Woodrow).

Council staff will remove a bonfire if it is on council land that is not a designated site or has been built outside the set dates and times or could be dangerous.

Council officers will also be looking out for anyone using Bonfire Night as an excuse to dump waste and will not hesitate to take appropriate action.

Residents can help reduce problems by storing wheelie bins, where possible, in a secure location and present them for collection at the right time so that there is minimal waste around.

If during office hours residents have concerns about a bonfire before it is lit they can report it to the council.

If a bonfire has been lit outside the permitted times, is dangerous, or on private land, call the police and fire service on 999.
